ABOUT:
My name is Kevin Fletcher (nickname Fletch). I live in Portland, Oregon. All the childhood cliches hold true: My Dad was an amateur landscape photographer so I was around cameras, my Mom adored old movies so I watched, I saw Star Wars, and I became obsessed with picture making at an early age…
I hope you see in my work how much I love images. But can you see how much I love the process of making images? How much I love the communities and people and friendships I make - the humanity of it all.
The idea that cinematographers/DPs are “Masters of Light” is an outmoded way of thinking (in my opinion). Yes, I have a vision, but I’m not a single master-entity; I’m a storytelling human that has to work with other humans to tell stories. Perhaps I’m more of a conduit: a conduit of a Director’s vision, a conduit of the script, a conduit of the Production Design and location, a conduit of the actors, of the sun, of chance, of planning, of technology, etc... Letting all of this flow through me on to the screen. It doesn’t matter how good an idea or a vision if it cannot be communicated to the people working with you. This is the core of it for me - flowing all of the complexity into the pictures…
